Description
This triaxial carbon fiber fabric has been designed to produce lightweight quasi-isotropic laminates with a high strength-to-weight ratio:
- It is woven from Toray T700 high strength carbon fibers.
- Compared with a biaxial weave, the dense triaxial weave has a higher resistance to tensile, compressive and shear stresses in every in-plane direction as well as a higher impact strength. As fibers run along three directions intersecting at 60 degree angles, a laminate produced with this fabric has a triangular structure that is very stable. - Spread tows provide the fabric with greater stiffness and strength in compression. Carbon fiber tows are spread into 20 mm/0.79 in. wide, 50 µm/2E-3 in. thick tapes. The resulting fabric has practically straight carbon fibers which are better suited to resist buckling. This makes the laminate more resistant to compressive stress. Moreover, due to their low crimp rate, spread tow fabrics also enable a higher fiber-to-resin volume ratio compared with traditional reinforcement fabrics.
- No additional tape binder is present. Although the fabric can be delicate to manipulate, this ensures excellent impregnation properties and high fiber-to-matrix adhesion.

Applications for this triaxial fabric include carbon fiber sheets and panels, surfboard/snowboard outer layers, kayak hulls, airplane model wings etc.
This fabric is supplied on a kraft paper for ease of manipulation, wraped around a cardboard tube, protected by a polyethylene film against humidity and by a bubble wrap. For optimal conservation, storing should take place in dry conditions and below 30°C.
